Products Vision
The automation, monitoring, and control industries have changed and evolved extremely
rapidly in the last few years.
- Building Automation has been impacted more than most other segments of this marketplace.
Most BAS were designed around a set of requirements and assumptions that they would
be managing a single (but possibly very large) building, or a campus of buildings.
They also assumed that the main user of the system would be the building operator.
- Industrial Automation Systems were typically designed around the concept of managing
a discrete process in a stand-alone system.
- SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) systems were once isolated stand
alone systems custom built for each application.
The new realities are that:
- Building owners want to manage their entire portfolio of properties as a very valuable
asset. They want to be able to determine that their facility is operating at peak
efficiency.
- Many more communities of interest and automation systems need controlled and secure
access to the information embedded in legacy BAS, SNMP Networks, Process Control
Systems, Industrial Ethernet, or Industrial Automation Systems.
- Different amounts and types of automation, and degree of integration, are required
depending on the facility size and the complexity and business criticality of the
service or operation the facility is hosting.
- The life cycle cost of automation systems must be tied to a definable ROI for the
customer.
- The automation system must utilize installed network infrastructure and adhere to
all customer specific IT and security standards.
- The automation system must conform to all Internet protocol, Industrial Ethernet,
network service, and industry open systems standards.
The S4 Group, Inc. understands these requirements in detail and all products and
services offered complement existing vendor products by allowing them to confirm
to these current customer requirements and enhancing the scalability, functionality,
and usability of existing systems.
