S4 Open Appliances
The S4 Open technology platform uniquely supports the integration of multiple protocols
in the Building Automation industry. By interpreting proprietary or legacy communication
protocols and publishing the results to industry standard open interfaces, customers
now have the option to cut and paste integration into BAS systems that have traditionally
been closed.
Today: Products to Extend and Enhance the Johnson Controls Metasys ®
BAS
The S4 Open appliances, utilize the S4 Open platform to open up the N2 bus systems
to new Best -Of-Breed solutions. The technology enables end users to retain existing
investment in the N2 bus and yet plan for cost effective growth and evolution in
the future by integrating BACnet or XML other protocols into their building automation
strategies.

the S4 Open appliance White Paper
The S4 Group's unique Virtual N2 Network© allows the Building Automation
System Designer to take advantage of all the features and strengths of any model
of the Johnson Controls, Inc. supervisory controller. In normal operation the S4
Open appliance is completely transparent to the supervisory controller. What the
supervisory controller sees on its N2 interface is the switched image of the sum
of the N2 devices on all of the Downstream N2 Networks attached to the S4 Open appliance.
It has no need to know what ports they were connected to, what media or transport
was utilized, or if address translation was performed. As far as it is concerned
our Virtual N2 Network© is a normal, traditional, N2 field bus.
Tomorrow: S4 Open Product Family Roadmap
Our way of doing business means that we learn from the past, extend and enhance
BAS and other non-IT systems in the present, and innovate for the future. In case
you haven't explored our web site in enough detail to realize this on your own the
S4 Open product family is not just for Metasys®. Metasys®
centric products are just the starting point. Take a look at our S4 Open Product
Roadmap, give us your feedback, and help to determine our future directions.
While you're learning about The S4 Group you might want to take a look at our Products Vision.
The following items are being considered as future additions, or enhancements, to
the S4 Open product line. Please Contact
Us if you have an interest in seeing these, or other, interfaces developed.
The order in which these interfaces are developed, and how they are packaged, will
be determined in large part by customer input.
